Research in Geographic Education

Welcome!

Update May 1, 2023

Research for Geographic Education started as an idea in 1998 with so much potential and possibilities as another outlet for geography educators to share their research. For 25 years we have had the pleasure of reviewing and publishing top research, thought pieces, and special issues highlighting the work of many, both in the United States and internationally.

Like so many things, however, things come and go. Unfortunately, it is with great sadness that we will be ending the Research in Geographic Education journal. This will serve as the final Volume.

As you might note, the year of the final volume is 2023, subsequently skipping over 2022. This has been the major reason for ending the journal, as manuscript submissions have been minimal and being able to put out a volume twice a year has been burdensome. Luckily in just these past few months we have had some great submissions by national and international geographic educators doing fantastic research in Brazil, Chile, and Puerto Rico. We are happy to highlight them in our final volume.

A few thank yous:

For those of you who have always considered Research in Geographic Education as the outlet for your research. You have kept us going.

To our review board, thank you for your service.

To our subscribers, you have kept us in business for 25 years.

And lastly, to our readers, thank you for always thinking of Research in Geographic Education as a place to find quality research articles.

We may come back one day, as new technology and opportunities present themselves, but for the time being, we will no longer be accepting manuscripts.

The journal, Research in Geographic Education, publishes significant research-based manuscripts and other important contributions in geographic education. As a field of research, geographic education covers a wide range of topics, including spatial cognition, perception, applications of learning theory, applications of instructional methodology, and assessment of student achievement, to name just a few. Therefore, the editors of the Journal  evaluate a wide range of manuscripts reporting scholarly research and practice completed by faculty members, classroom teachers, independent scholars, and senior level graduate students. The Journal represents all segments of the research community in geographic education, including senior, mid-career, and new researchers and teachers and graduate student researchers, who are engaged in active research about learning and teaching. In order to achieve those goals, we encourage and welcome submissions of papers.
